Be A Blessing
“You shall be a blessing to all the families of the earth” human and otherwise (Genesis 12:3).
“You shall be a blessing to all the families of the earth” human and otherwise (Genesis 12:3). This single teaching is a standard against which to measure your behavior and every teaching, custom, and law regarding your behavior from whatever source: religious, political, economic, social, etc. If a teaching, custom, or law empowers you to be a blessing; to honor self and other, person and planet, and to live your life in such a way as to make the world a little better for you having been born into it, follow it. If it doesn’t, don’t. One River Foundation created the Be a Blessing® Project to help repair the world by encouraging you and others to be a blessing, to wear Be a Blessing® buttons as a way of starting a conversation about being a blessing, and to give buttons to others who will do the same. Three Steps of Being a Blessing
Humanity is experiencing a dark night, a time of environmental and spiritual collapse. Millions of us have lost all sense of meaning, mission, and purpose. We find ourselves frustrated, frightened, adrift and angry. As a result all too many of us have fallen victim to narcissism, nihilism, hatred, drugs and even suicide. Being a blessing to all the families of the earth is an antidote to this dark night. Being a blessing helps you and others reclaim the sense of meaning, mission, and purpose that just might move us through this dark night into a new dawn. There are three steps to being a blessing: 1. Opening Our Minds. See the other and yourself as waves of an infinite, non-dual oceanic happening called by many names: God, Brahman, Allah, YHVH, Mother, Nature, Tao, Reality, etc. 2. Opening Our Hearts.Drop all constricting narratives that pit “us” against “them” and person against planet. 3. Opening Our Hands. Hallow each meeting with spontaneous acts of kindness arising naturally from your being present and free.
The Grand Lodge of All Beings
The Grand Lodge of All Beings, is a largely unknown though not secret society whose legendary roots go back to Eve in the Garden of Eden. The Lodge has no building, no physical footprint, no website or Facebook page. The Grand Lodge of All Beings is Gaia, Mother Earth, and all beings are members of the Grand Lodge. Those who devote themselves to being a blessing to all the families of the earth are called lamed-vavniks – after a legendary society of hidden saints first mentioned in the fourth century C.E. Lamed-vavniks are the caretakers of the Lodge. They promote Perennial Wisdom, affirm the interdependence of all life, repair the world with acts of blessing and lovingkindness, heed the 911 calls of person and planet and come to the aid of Lodge members in need—human and otherwise.
Because being a blessing to all the families of the earth can be a daunting task, one you need not, indeed cannot, do alone, One River Foundation revived The Grand Lodge of All Beings, as a supportive community of people committed to living their lives as a blessing and making the world a little better for their having done so. We encourage you to become a Lodge member; to do the work of being a blessing, and spread the word by distributing Be a Blessing® buttons and by attending and/or hosting Be a Blessing® workshops. While there is no fee for Lodge membership, donations are encouraged. The Lodge seeks no monies outside these donations. For more information on The Grand Lodge, or to make a tax-deductible donation go to: www.oneriverfoundation.org.
